Happy Halloween! (and try not to eat too much candy tomorrow)

Baby Huey

Continuing my posts of second class cartoon characters: Baby Huey.

Here's the formula of every Baby Huey cartoon:
1) Mean kids make fun of Huey for being huge and wearing a diaper
2) Huey gets upset and leaves
3) Bad guy (wolf or fox) captures mean kids
4) Mean kids call for help
5) Huey beats up bad guy and rescues mean kids
6) Mean kids love Huey

TGIF

My daughter Abby loves comics just like I do and she loved reading some old Hagar the Horrible books I found in the basement. I drew this picture to show Hagar summing up the end of the work week.

Roger Rabbit

I was inspired to draw the image above because my daughter was watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit over the weekend.

Old Doodles IV

More old doodles from the basement. Can you tell that I was influenced by watching endless hours of Hanna-Barbera cartoons?

Friday Night Lights: High School Mascots II

Continuing the high school mascot posts, here is the Grant High School Bulldog. This is where my oldest daughter will attend high school in a few years.

On a geeky side note: This mascot image is actually based on a drawing by famous animator Preston Blair. He is best known for animating "Red Hot Riding Hood" for MGM.

Friday Night Lights: High School Mascots

While cleaning the basement I came across my high school yearbook. In my nostalgic haze I decided to draw the Schaumburg High School mascot, Siegie the Saxon. While there are a lot of schools with a viking as a mascot, very few have a saxon as their mascot.

SHS Class of '88 in the house!

Old Doodles

Came across these doodles when cleaning out the basement. Not exactly sure but thinking they are from mid-late 1990s since Johnny Bravo is in there.

2010 Big City Knights

My 2010 fantasy football draft was this weekend and I came away happy with my team. (but everybody thinks that after the draft) I played around with Microsoft Movie Maker and came up with the video above. I hope it strikes fear into all my opponents this season. :)

Skel Wars (#10, #11, #12, #13)

Continuing my quest for 365 Lil Skel drawings in 365 days I thought I'd try putting Lil' Skel and Lil' Skella in famous movie roles. First up a series of Star Wars drawings.

Lil' Skel NBA (#9)

With all the hype around NBA free agency this week (Go Bulls!) I was inspired to draw Lil' Skel as the NBA logo.

This only drawing number 9 in my quest for 365 in a year. I have some serious catching up to do.

IF Ahead (#8)

A few weeks ago the Illustration Friday topic was 'Ahead'. Ironically I'm behind in posting the picture I drew based on one of my Dad's bad puns.

World Cup Fever (#6 & #7)

With the World Cup starting this weekend the focus of the world is on soccer (or football to the non-American readers. Here's a couple of drawings of Lil' Skel as a soccer player. (if nothing else, this drawing exercise helped me learn to draw a soccer ball better)

Congratulations Blackhawks (#5)

In honor of the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup, I present Lil' Skel the Blackhawk fan.

While I could have just photoshopped the real Blackhawks logo on the front of the jersey, I decided to draw it myself and then shrink it to fit. I've also attached the full size Blackhawk logo drawing.

This is only Lil' Skel drawing #5. I have a lot of catching up to do to meet my goal of 365 Lil Skel drawings in a year, but I'm working on it.

Lil' Sel Walking (#4)

Nothing fancy, just a side view of Lil' Skel walking. I drew him the same scale as previous pictures but his legs look a little funky to me. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get better at this with 361 drawings to go.

Skel-boarding (#3)

Lil' Skel on a skateboard. I told you he was versatile.

Monday, April 19, 2010

Lil' Skella (#2)

Here's is Lil' Skel's girlfriend, Lil' Skella. I imagine him yelling it like Marlon Brando in A Street Car Named Desire, "Hey Skella!"

Skel and Crossbones (#1)

Ahoy there mateys, it be Lil' Skel on a pirate flag! This be drawing number one in me personal challenge...365 Lil' Skel drawings by April 19, 2011. I don't guarantee a new drawing every day but there will be 365 before the challenge be over. If any of you landlubbers be having any suggestions then post your comments....if ye dare!!!

IF Detective

This week's Illustration Friday topic is 'Detective'. So here's Lil' Skel as a 1940's private detective. Originally I was going to put him in a Sherlock Holmes style hat but I couldn't quite figure out how to make it look right on his head.

Meet Lil' Skel

I came up with this little character this weekend and I decided to name him Lil' Skel. He's easy to draw and I think he's got a lot of possibilities. I have an idea in mind but it may take me a few days to get it ready. Stay tuned....

Witch Hazel

Yet another picture I printed out a while ago meaning to draw. This is Witch Hazel from the Bugs Bunny cartoons 'Bewitched Bunny', 'Broom-Stick Bunny', and 'A Witch's Tangled Hare'. It wasn't until recently that I realized her name was a play on the herbal remedy called witch hazel.

Toodles Galore

I had the urge to draw today and found a printout of this picture in the back of my sketchpad. I believe I printed it out when I was trying to get better at drawing female characters. This character is from Tom & Jerry and has been the object of Tom's affection in a few cartoons. Thanks to Wikipedia I now know that her name is Toodles Galore.

Minotaur Logo

I did not draw the image above. As I often do when I create a logo, I search the web for images and then put them together using Photoshop. This is a logo for the Minnesota Minotaurs from Basketsim.com.

Update: I also created this alternate logo for the team as well.

Basketball Phrase

When I play basketball I subscribe to the Pat Riley philosophy of 'no easy layups'. In other words, I'll foul a player rather than give up an easy basket. Anyone who has played basketball with me has most likely had the following conversation with me:
Me - "Did he score?"
Other player - "No."
Me - "Good D!"

I thought that conversation might make a good T-shirt so I came up with the image above. (picture on the front of the shirt, words on the back) I've had the picture for years but never got around to making the T-shirt. Who knows maybe someday I'll submit it to a website like snorgtees.com.

IF Clumsy

Giraffes look naturally clumsy. Put one on roller blades and it only looks more so.
